Anxiety, Depression, and the Spiritual Life: How You’re Not Alone & You’re Not Forsaken
Psychotherapy, WA Virtually Based
Out beyond ideas of rightdoing and wrongdoing there is a field. I will meet you there… — Rumi
Who I Am
My name is Caleb Keller, hence the moniker and PLLC on the url. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counseling Associate based virtually in the state of Washington. I believe therapy work is partially to do with 50 ish minutes we spend together but mostly to do with the remaining 1,390 of your day and the 10,080 minutes of your week.
For the spiritually wandering, curious, and skeptical, church, temple, and other religious spaces can serve as a hindrance rather than a help on the spiritual quest. Additionally, with questioning of one’s spirituality comes the whole gamut of other questions; why did my parents choose this tradition, why are religious people often this way or that way, and so on. Often, people assume these questions means a disregard and sometimes a disrespect of one’s family of origin. However, in my work and experience, I’ve found the opposite to be true. In our work together, all questions are honored and all insight is valued. Deconstruction is neither a problem nor the answer; it is merely what is needed to find wellness. So let’s do it together.
How Will We Work
Working with me means an integrative, human first angle on the therapeutic process. I draw from the Narrative Therapeutic approach, particularly rooting in Story Informed Trauma Therapy along with evidence-backed treatment methods found in EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and DBT (dialectal behavior therapy), all built on the bedrock of person-centered therapy.
Who I Work With
Here’s my mission statement; I desire to equip those who call themselves spiritually homeless to feel re-enchanted with life through working together on holding openness, authenticity, and faith all equally, without expending one via over-reliance on another. I want people to feel spiritually whole, religiously honest, and joyfully curious about life, God, and their place in the world.
This specifically means working with those who:
Have begun or are considering deconstructing some or most elements of your faith
Were exploited by family/church staff under the guise of contributing to “higher”/holy spiritual work
Recognize signs of PTSD/C-PTSD when topic of religion/church is raised in conversation
Lived in and/or worked in a high control religious/cult setting
Inherited all-or-nothing thinking from upbringing
Experience shame as it pertains to sexuality
Find themselves caught in enmeshed/people-pleasing relationships
Have difficulty with belonging either in religious and/or “anti-religious” settings (church, academia, etc.)
Experienced compassion-fatigue and/or burn-out from religiously oriented work (pastoring/volunteering/etc.)
Meet Me First
Therapy can suck sometimes. Even I know that, and I AM a therapist. Rarely you go to see a doctor when your body is working as it should; same goes with when seeking counseling. However, I’m convinced, first and foremost, that therapy is all in the connection. Before we do our hard work together, you need to confirm for yourself I’m fit for the job. By clicking below and giving me a ring or mail, you can determine for yourself whether working with me is right for you
